Anu Junnonen

En sortant d'une famille musicale Anu a commencé à chanter avant de parler selon sa mère. Dans son adolescence, elle a chanté dans ses chœurs ville natale, joue du piano, du saxophone et de la flûte. Plus tard, elle a découvert la voix de David Linx et a étudié avec lui pendant cinq ans au Conservatoire de Bruxelles. Elle a suivi divers ateliers avec Sheila Jordan, Deborah Brown, Mark Murphy, Bobby McFerrin, Theo Bleckmann, Fay Claassen, Jerry Granelli, Hank Roberts et Dave Douglas. Depuis 2005, elle compose pour son quintette de jazz aNoo avec qui elle a sorti deux albums « Les Terres Luckless du Nord » (2007) et « Sinipiika » (2011). Mais comme les deux albums, elle a enregistré avec ce groupe se révélerait, Anu était loin d'être un puriste de jazz. Le chanteur est devenu de plus en plus intrigué par des échantillons et des rythmes numériques. Cette nouvelle fascination a donné lieu à « Skeletons » (2014), le premier de ses documents sur lesquels elle s'appelait les coups de feu. Anu travaille en étroite collaboration avec l'accordéoniste belge Tuur Florizoone. Dans leur duo acoustique entre le jazz, ils freestyle, l'improvisation, le folk et le tango. Elle chante également à Bruxelles Vocal Project, un groupe vocal contemporain qui effectuent principalement matériel nouvellement composé grâce à des collaborations avec différents chanteurs, instrumentistes et compositeurs. Anu a été effectue dans divers lieux et festivals en Belgique et à l'étranger. Avec ses groupes, elle a visité en Allemagne, la Finlande, la Norvège, la Chine et le Maroc. Anu est aussi un enseignant dévoué et enseigne actuellement au Conservatoire de Gand. Elle est régulièrement invitée à donner des ateliers de jazz, folk ou un chant a capella.

Coming out of a musical family Anu started singing before speaking according to her mom. In her teens she sang in her hometown choirs, played piano, saxophone and flute. Later she discovered the voice of David Linx and studied with him for five years at the Conservatory of Brussels. She followed various workshops with Sheila Jordan, Deborah Brown, Mark Murphy, Bobby McFerrin, Theo Bleckmann, Fay Claassen, Jerry Granelli, Hank Roberts and Dave Douglas. Since 2005 she has been composing for her jazz quintet aNoo with whom she released two albums “The Luckless Lands of the North” (2007) and “Sinipiika” (2011). But as the two albums she recorded with that band would prove, Anu was far from being a jazz purist. The singer became more and more intrigued by samples and digital beats. This new fascination resulted in ‘Skeletons’ (2014), the first of her records on which she herself was calling the shots. Anu works closely with Belgian accordion player Tuur Florizoone. In their acoustic duo they freestyle between jazz, improvisation, folk and tango. She also sings in Brussels Vocal Project, a contemporary vocal group that mainly perform newly composed material through collaborations with different singers, instrumentalists and composers. Anu has been performing in various venues and festivals in Belgium and abroad. With her groups she toured in Germany, Finland, Norway, China and Morocco. Anu is also a devoted teacher and is currently teaching at The Conservatory of Ghent. She is regularly invited to teach workshops of jazz, folk or a capella singing.
