Élodie Antoine lives and works in Brussels. She graduated in 2002 from the sculpture workshop at ENSAV, La Cambre. She practices soft sculpture (crochet, sewing, embroidery, felt, mesh) - drawing and video installations. She has been exhibiting her work since 1997, notably in France, Spain, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Korea...
Élodie Antoine invents hybrid objects mixing elements from dissimilar, even contradictory, universes; lipstick in the shape of a concrete wick, nuclear power plants in lace, a culture of bacilli in embroidery, pipes in felt or factories in quilted fabrics...
In her installations, it happens that an element reproduces itself to the point of colonizing the space; textile mushrooms in a forest in Zwalm, or even the moldings of a ceiling.
Its ordinarily inanimate elements are given a life of their own, contaminating the space like a fungus or a mold, upsetting the established order and arousing feelings of curiosity, attraction and repulsion.
