Biography

Belgian pianist Lena Kollmeier has been playing the piano since the age of 5. She performs regularly on stage alongside her sister, Louise Kollmeier, also a pianist. As a duo, the sisters have won numerous prizes at international competitions in Belgium, the Netherlands and Italy, as well as first prize and a special "Micheline Carrère" prize at the CIP International Piano Competition in Paris.

Since 2014, Lena has been playing with Trio O3, which specializes in contemporary repertoire and will shortly be releasing its first album on the Cypres label. In 2018, the trio won the "Supernova" competition in Brussels, and a year later won the prize for best interpretation of a contemporary work and third prize at the Opus 2019 international competition in Poland.

From 2014 to 2022, Lena formed the Duo Rosa with soprano Stephany Ortega. They presented their debut album "Return" in 18 cities around the world, and their second album "America Soul: From Broadway to Paris", released by Hänssler Classic, was nominated at the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA) 2020.

Lena performs solo and chamber music on European and international stages: Carnegie Hall in New York, Philharmonie de Luxembourg, Teatro Rossini in Lugo (Italy), Ateneo de Madrid, Palais des Beaux-Arts in Santo Domingo,...

Lena has trained with teachers such as Daniel Blumenthal, Pierre Thomas, Etienne Rappe and Marco Zuccarini, and received advice from pianists such as Natacha Zdobnova, Dana Protopopescu, Boyan Vodenitcharov, Roberto Giordano, Florence Millet and Giuliano Mazzocante.

She entered the Conservatoire de Liège at the age of 15 and continued her studies at the Conservatoire de Bruxelles, where she graduated with a Master of Arts in piano with distinction. Lena is also a Cum Laude graduate in musicology and chamber music from the Accademia Pianistica in Imola, Italy.

In search of a true proximity with the public, Lena explores other ways of approaching her instrument and transmitting her passion. In March 2023, she discovered the teaching of pianist Marc Vella and the philosophy of his Ecole de la Fausse Note, which, for her, echoed the true meaning of music. She then decided to set up her own Ecole de la Fausse Note, giving various improvisation courses open to all (even those with no musical knowledge).
