After growing up in Vienna to the sound of the waltz, Elena Leibbrand has been training since 1995 in Vienna dances, Cuban salsa and Argentine tango, as well as in various contemporary forms, before resolutely devoting herself to popular and traditional dances, mainly from France.
Since 2011, she has been giving folk and traditional dance classes and workshops in Belgium (notably for Frisse Folk and Boombal) and numerous workshops in Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, France and Poland.
In 2018, she founded her own dance school, EléDanse, in Walloon Brabant, which has been in collaboration with the Rixensart Cultural Center since 2021.
Through her teaching, she wishes to pass on the delicate blend that dance represents for her: human warmth, tradition, the pleasure of bodily exploration, improvisation & play!
Elena loves both the immense improvisational potential of more modern dances (couple dances, contemporary dance) and the richness, rigor and beauty of traditional dances. She has a predilection for all forms of waltz, the large family of bourrées, bal musette dances and the repertoires of Gascony, Béarn and Poitou.
Other dance projects include coaching for the Zinneke Parade in 2016 and 2018, creating a community opera commissioned by La Monnaie (2016-18), appearing in a TV series in 2022, and hosting a Vienna Waltzes evening for 350 people at La Monnaie in 2022.
Elena co-hosted the folk dance workshop with Koen Dhondt at AKDT from 2014 to 2017, and since 2017 has given a week-long workshop of a different theme each year (waltzes, bal musette dances, bourrées ...), preferably with live musical accompaniment.
