Born in 1972 in France, I grew up in Nice and followed a school curriculum in music (Lycée Musical). After graduating from high school, I chose to move north and gradually devote myself to the visual arts: first three years in Paris, then Brussels, where I specialized in printed images. I graduated from La Cambre in screen printing (École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Visuels, Brussels).
"Nicolas Grimaud produces visual objects that question both the experience of seeing and screen printing as a medium. (...) Using a repertoire of indexical signs, he breaks down everyday codes into a grammar of the sensory, punctuated by singular relationships between shapes and colors. The repeated movement of patterns and their modes of appearance interweave to question our habits of perception. (...)" W.T.Liebermann, 2020.
In parallel with my plastic research, I have developed a broad teaching practice (computer graphics, screen printing, color) - both in academia and in higher education, as well as working as artistic coordinator in several exhibition spaces.
