Defoort Bart

Bart Defoort has been active on the Belgian and international jazz scene since the early 1990s.

He is a musician with an open mind. He can be found in Hardbop Jazz, melodic "European" Jazz, "world music", large modern Jazz orchestras, etc...

He has made 5 CDs under his name with his own compositions and different groups, with which he has played several concerts at all the major festivals in Belgium, such as "Jazz à Liège", "Gent Jazz" , "Jazz Middelheim", as well as in all the places specializing in Jazz (Clubs and Cultural Centers).

He has an international career with the BJO, the Brussels Jazz Orchestra, founded in 1992 and of which he has been a part since its inception. Hundreds of concerts all over the world, collaborations with Maria Schneider, Joe Lovano, Chris Potter, Kenny Werner, Tom Harrell, Wynton Marsalis Lincoln Jazz Orchestra, Philip Catherine, Bert Joris and others.

The BJO has meanwhile released 21 CDs. Bart Defoort has also been a popular teacher for many years. After 18 years of teaching at the Humanités Musicales in Antwerp, he has been Professor of Jazz Saxophone at the Ghent Conservatory since 2005.
