Mathilde D'Hooge

Mathilde D'Hooge

Attracted by geometric and abstract shapes, Mathilde D’hooge seeks structure in all her textile creations.

Through the techniques of weaving, tapestry, bobbin lace, folding and cutting (by hand or laser), Mathilde D'hooge has created her own textile language: a language based on the rhythm created by cutting. The cut, sometimes slit, sometimes lace, sometimes modulated, gives a rhythm, a pulsation.

She plays with unity in multiplicity, with form and counter-form, openness and transparency, disassembly and reconstruction. The motif-fragment repeated endlessly is articulated by different symmetries which each time offer a new look at a field of multiple infinities.

Simplicity and complexity are her common thread.
