Claire Goldfarb (1974)

Cello and voice

Claire Goldfarb is a cellist. Contemporary music, world music, classical, unusual, the style matters less to her than what the music tells and carries as an exploration of another possibility... along the way, her singing voice has emerged.

Graduated in psychopedagogy and agrégation from the Conservatoire Royal de Liège in 2015.

Early in her career, she played with the Orchestre de l'Opéra Royal de la Monnaie, Vlaamse Opera Stichting, World Youth Orchestra des Jeunesses Musicales, European Union Youth Orchestra with Bernard Haitink, William Sheller Instrumental Ensemble, Led Zepplin Instrumental Ensemble.

She has complemented her musical work by seeking the quality of movement that carries sound: dance classes at Kairos Liège, in 5 Rhythms dance, Feldenkrais method, contact dance, workshops and classes with Dominique Dujinsky, Marielle Morales, Hazel Carrie, Laurence Chevallier,...

She has attended numerous clowning workshops: Laura Sheling, Alfredo Fernandez Atienza, Sophie Bonhote,...

As part of the non-profit organization "Murmures et Chocolats", she has created several shows for young audiences, combining music, theater, storytelling and movement:

3 solo albums to her credit: "Or Propos" on Homerecords.be in 2006, "Drops" in 2014 and the sound book Little drops in 2021 on Homerecords with painter Tanja Mosblech.

She has been commissioned by theater and dance companies to create music for their shows: ensemble Leporello, Théâtre d'un jour, Irene K, Lézards Scéniques, cie Felicette Chazerand, Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, Compagnie Nyash (Caroline Cornelis): she created the soundtracks for dance shows: SToel and 10.10, Llum, Alter.

She created and performed the music and stage performance in the play Birds On strings, for the Rosenfisch theater in Aachen with Stephan Wunsch.

She passionately co-created the sound capsules for Tournai ville en poésie with Veronika Babardi, Sebastian Diesner and the rhetoric students of Collège de Tournai. For cinema, she co-created the music for Joel Godefroid's short film "Ergon" and Christophe Predari's "Chaleur Humaine".

From 2018, she plays in “Petit Charlot”, a film concert with Jean Jadin, pianist.

2022, she wrote the music for the feature film “Austral” by Benjamin Colaux, followed by composing for “Une des mille Colline” by Bernard Bellefroid.

Since lockdown, she has developed a practice of sound care in hospitals and nursing homes (in collaboration with the Centre Culturel de Huy and the non-profit organization "run art solidaire", l'hôpital du bois de l'abbaye).

In 2023, she co-created the music for the show Reclaim for the Théatre d'un jour company, composed the music for Alter, the latest creation by the Nyash company, and played with Mélanie de Biasio at the Bozar for the release of her album Il Viaggio.

She shares these worlds in cello classes for Murmures et Chocolats, the Conservatoire Royal de Liège, Académie OVa and Amay, the AKDT in Libramont, and in workshops for Ekla, Murmures et Chocolats.
