Description
For centuries, the Irish have traveled the world, carrying their culture and music with them. This living tradition has influenced and inspired many places, particularly across the Atlantic.
This workshop offers the opportunity to discover this music within a bowed string ensemble, through which we will rearrange traditional melodies.
We will explore repertoires from Ireland, Quebec, the United States, Cape Breton, and beyond.
This repertoire will be learned collectively and by ear before being arranged together. This process will foster the development of group playing, groove and rhythmic sense, as well as collective pitch and self-awareness, as well as awareness of others.
Particular attention will be paid to instrumental technique (posture, bow hold and techniques, left-hand mechanics, etc.), ensemble playing, and the exploration of different styles and regional characteristics.
