Description

From the meyhane of Istanbul to the shepherd songs of the Anatolian yaylas, and on to the Aegean Sea, this workshop offers a journey through the folk music and songs of Turkey.

Using diverse repertoires, we will explore the musical practices specific to each context: melodic and rhythmic characteristics, modes (makams), microtonality, as well as the ways of interpreting this music according to region and custom.

Each piece will be approached within its cultural context. The work will focus on adapting these repertoires for ensemble performance, including instruments and voices.

The workshop aims to broaden perspectives on the diversity of Turkish folk music and enrich one's own musical practice.
