Description
Through play and experimentation, students will explore the various elements specific to Django Reinhardt's music and improvisation more generally : sound, timing, harmony, repertoire, accompaniment, listening, and finding one's place within a group.
- Sound: How to learn to listen to oneself and develop techniques to tame the timbre of one's instrument and bring out the warmest, fullest, most incisive sound… for both accompaniment and solo?
- Timing: What placement in time is needed to play which rhythm?
- Repertoire: Learning standards specific to Django Reinhardt's style, with possible forays into other related musical styles in terms of sound or harmony (for example: Brazilian choro).
- Harmony: How to deepen one's understanding/perception of chord progressions?
- Listening: Improving awareness of one's own sound, the sounds of others, and their integration.
How can you learn to find your place in a group at any given moment? How can you make choices, be present, and gain self-confidence?
All these topics will be explored through active learning methods (student-led participation) in classes that will be held sometimes as a whole group, sometimes in pairs or trios (to be determined based on the number of participants and their level), but always grounded in listening and exploration.
