Before registering, please read this document carefully, which presents the general operation of our music courses: Informations à savoir sur cette semaine d'ateliers
Description
Objective: to give you the tools to evolve in your playing, your sound, your repertoire... and acquire independent work practice so that you can continue to progress at home, once the course is over! In this workshop, I will not talk about Bob Dylan, western music, or even our late Toots!
Alongside these very legitimate evocations of the harmonica, there is an immense field occupied by our instrument: Blues, and by natural evolution, Rock. If the notes of Sonny Boy Williamson, Little Walter, Paul Butterfield or Magic Dick (J.Geils Band) thrill you, this course is for you! Otherwise, I will be there to help you discover them, appreciate them, approach them… touch your lips! No knowledge of music theory required, use of tablatures, recognition/auditory memory work.
The mornings will be devoted to instrumental technique. Depending on the availability of participants and their levels, the afternoons can be shared with the blues guitar workshop for group playing sessions, this style of music traditionally combining the harmonica with guitar and singing.
Required level
To fully benefit from this course, it is recommended to be able to produce the “bending” (*), and ideally to integrate it into a sequence of notes: melody or simple phrase. This is therefore a course that is not suitable for complete beginners. If you can sing, that’s a plus!
(*) technique which allows the aspirated notes of the first four holes to be lowered by 1/2 tone or more
Equipment required
IMPORTANT: Harmonica tones required: minimum essential: C (letter C engraved on the instrument) A (A) if possible, in addition: D (D), G (G), F (F), B flat (Bb ) Recommended models: Hohner: Special 20, Marine Band Deluxe /Crossover Suzuki: Manji, Promaster Seydel: Session Steel, 1847 Many other models exist, I have nothing against it as long as “that” has 10 holes, on a single row, and tuned like a blues harp!! PLUS: something to note, a USB stick to download audio files, possibly your amp + microphone
