Description
During this week of experimentation and creation, we will dip our hands into vats to discover or rediscover the pleasure of papermaking.
To begin with, we will work on making simple sheets from recycled pulp and cotton, linen or abaca pulp. We will test the cooking and handling of plant fibres such as corn, iris, daylily and kozo in order to transform them into paper.
Over the course of the week, we will gradually embark on a process of research and creation focusing on colour, texture, material, transparency, volume and composition. Together, we will observe the variations resulting from the way the sheet is formed or dried.
We will first tackle small-format work before moving on to a medium-format creation that will reflect your week's reflections. Those who wish to do so can also try their hand at simple binding or folding as a final step in their production.
The learning process will be supported by theoretical input and examples from artists whose practice focuses on paper making.
