Description

Landscape as a direct experience, where working from life is one of the key aspects of this approach. While reproducing a two-dimensional surface in two dimensions poses no difficulty, it is much more complicated to choose to draw from life and thus move from three to two dimensions.

During this course, we will address and resolve the difficulties inherent in the transition between these two dimensions, because drawing a landscape requires a number of decisions: defining the frame, stylising or interpreting. It is also necessary to perceive atmospheric perspective, proportions, values of light and shadow, etc.

But most importantly, you have to LOVE what you see, familiarise yourself with your subject for as long as necessary, until it becomes like an old friend to your eyes. The aim of this course will also be to help participants develop their own artistic grammar, targeting each person's sensibilities for particular modes of graphic expression.

Documentation will be made available to participants on artists who have worked with landscape, from Hubert Van Eyck to David Hockney.
