Description
Is opera outdated? Is it still relevant to stage Don Juan in the post-Me Too era? What is the echo of Carmen today? And what if The Magic Flute were a way of challenging our political systems?
Starting with the great classics, how can we reinvent stories that speak to us today? Questioning, rearranging, reworking, drawing on the richness of the repertoire while seeking new forms of expression.
Opera as a crossroads, as a meeting point of the arts, of music and text, of movement and space. How can we reclaim an art that often seems too elitist to make it accessible and give it a meaning that speaks to our contemporaries?
Using traditional methods, with the resources available, our individual personalities, and whatever we have in our pockets, we will work collectively to create a shared object.
Come participate in a hybrid creation crafted with the unique skills and personalities of each participant. All backgrounds are welcome; the work will be structured around the strengths of everyone involved. Special attention will be paid to ensuring that everyone finds their rightful place.
