Description
What is it that makes the groove in the African-American repertoire? How do we make it groove?
Groove is the body singing and the voice dancing; it's the verticality of the rhythm, from head to toe.
The music, the sound of the voice, must inevitably evoke movement in the body. In the morning, we will explore all these questions.
In the afternoon, we will rehearse songs that we will perform in concert mid-week. I will give a concert at the church in Neufchâteau, probably on Wednesday evening, and you will finish the concert with me in a choir setting.
This is a way for me to show you a direct application of the different techniques I will share with you. Groove is a source of infinite joy, and the gospel repertoire we will also perform is a true connection of the soul and the heart.
Level
Personal experience singing in a group or individually is preferred; a good ear and a good sense of rhythm are essential!
