Description
I would like us to go beyond simply performing our scores. To (re)discover this instrument with fresh eyes.
This workshop will focus on expressing creativity and presence through the instrument. How can we be fully aware of our gestures and musical intentions simultaneously? How can we make the musical discourse fluid and coherent? How can the sound we create reflect our inner state and communicate with depth and emotion? And also, how can we play and develop our listening skills when playing in a group, while remaining connected to our own music and our own rhythm?
Together, we will:
- Learn to be fully present in our playing, developing a heightened sensitivity to our own emotional and mental state, as well as to our sonic environment.
- Develop our ability to use the violin as a tool for authentic expression, finding unique ways to convey our emotions and thoughts through music.
- Refine our inner and outer listening.
- Attempt to journey with ourselves and with others within the sound.
During this week, we will have individual and group playing sessions, discussions on awareness and musical expression, meditation and mindful listening exercises, as well as moments of free and spontaneous creation.
The group repertoire will be fairly simple and organized by level to allow the workshop to focus on the various skills mentioned above. This week-long workshop is for all violinists wishing to develop a calm and confident approach to public performances.
We will also cover the different technical aspects of the instrument, particularly through group exercises. Whenever possible, individual or semi-private sessions will be organized and tailored to the specific needs of each student.
Level
From age 12 (no upper age limit) and with a minimum of 4 years of practice.
Equipement
A music stand, his violin, a yoga mat and a cushion.
