The Balkan Brass Band workshop explores a wide variety of festive Balkan repertoires, learning pieces representative of the musical identities of various countries and regions (Macedonia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, Turkey, etc.). Melodies, ornamentation, harmonies, rhythms, improvisation: we will attempt to cover as many of these aspects as possible that contribute to the richness of Balkan music.

A comprehensive overview of styles and techniques not traditionally taught on the cello. The workshop will cover chopping, fingerpicking, chord systems, bowed and strummed accompaniment, bass work, and some melody learning (mainly Americana and Balkan).

Singing is like morning dew, it refreshes the traveler's path.

The bendir (also douf, mizhar...) is a frame drum without rattles. From the Maghreb to India, it is found in different forms and rhythmic traditions.

Based on a repertoire of rhythms from North Africa, the Middle East, and the Far East, this course will focus on the darbuka, or doholla, a chalice-shaped percussion instrument. The learning of darbuka playing techniques will be based on the modern split-hand technique, although the rhythms practiced will be drawn from a wide variety of traditions.

From the meyhane of Istanbul to the shepherd songs of the Anatolian yaylas, this workshop offers an immersion in the folk music and songs of Turkey. Through various repertoires, we will explore modes (makams), microtonality, rhythms, and ways of interpreting this music in an ensemble practice, with instruments and voices.

The students will explore together through play and experimentation the different elements specific to Django's music and to improvisation more generally: sound, time, harmony, repertoire, accompaniment, listening, finding one's place in a group.

In this workshop, you will learn to play Cuban music. It covers the most interesting and well-known styles such as salsa, son cubano, rumba, mambo, cha-cha-cha, danzon, timba, yoruba music, bolero, songo, mozambique, pilon among others.

The course focuses on practicing Afro-Cuban rhythms. Body percussion plays an important role in the course. We also use percussion instruments as an aid in learning rhythm.
