Biography

Born in 1973, Michel Seba grew up in the Arlon region, in a family of passionate musicians. From an early age, he was lulled by the sound of the bagpipes and hurdy-gurdy. He began his training at the Académie Internationale d'Eté with Chris Joris and Didier Labarre. After his secondary education, it was only natural for him to leave the southern Luxembourg region to study percussion at the Conservatoire Royal de Musique de Bruxelles, notably under Frank Michiels and Diederik Wissels.

His ability to mix genres and his growing talent soon made him a household name, and it wasn't long before he was collaborating with the greats: Eric Legnini, Eddy Louiss, Toots Thielemans, Eric Truffaz, Paco Sery and many others. He is at ease in all registers, whether jazz, folk or world music. He regularly proves this at festivals such as the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Jazz Marathon in Brussels and the famous Montreux Jazz Festival. Now a fixture on the Belgian music scene, he regularly gives courses and workshops in Belgium at the Akdt in Libramont and abroad, notably in Burkina Faso, Vietnam and Algeria...

His mastery of variety has enabled him to play and/or record with Maurane, Axelle Red and Adamo, as well as being one of the musicians of "The Voice" in Belgium. He has also recorded several film scores and commercials. He has also taken part in a number of multi-disciplinary projects, such as Feria Musica's theater and contemporary circus. Ready for any musical experience, Michel has also been a member of the Soledad group, which draws its inspiration from classical music and tango nuevo. Fabrizio Cassol and Alain Platel's Requiem for L., mixing dance, jazz and opera, is yet another example of the artistic diversity Michel appreciates.

Michel also leads his own projects such as the Slang group, alongside François Garny and Manuel Hermia. This "Rock-ethno-Coltranian" jazz trio is currently on its 5th album, and has taken it to the four corners of the planet. And, taking advantage of the free time imposed by Covid, he develops his personal project "Multicolore" in the company of Niels Van Heertum on euphonium, keyboard and effects, and Rodriguez Vangama on bass and guitar. Thanks to the natural alchemy of these three musicians, this project takes you to different lands through a warm, mixed and polyrhythmic music that's good for the soul and the body.
