Description
During this week-long workshop, we are going to work on the various aspects of forró in a fun and friendly way. We'll be looking at figures and movement variations, as well as musicality, communication and interaction between dance partners, body technique, cultural aspects and much more!
By the end of the workshop, you will feel more at ease on the dance floor and have new tools to better interact with your partner, interpret the music better and express yourself better in the dance.
Beyond forró, the workshop is also a great opportunity to meet new people, have fun, relax and discover other musical and dance worlds.
You're invited to contribute your ideas and requests to the basic program to further personalize the experience. Don't hesitate to bring your own ideas!
The course will be given in English, with summaries in French if necessary.
To facilitate our preparation, please include in your registration:
- a short summary of your experience in forró (and/or another couple dance). You can mention: the city where you have been dancing, since when, the frequency, in what type of environment (weekly classes, one-off workshops, festivals, evenings, etc.)
- your preferred role in dancing (guide, follower, or both)
Required level
The workshop is aimed at beginners and intermediate dancers in forró.
For false beginners, ideally you already have a basic understanding of forró, i.e. you've mastered at least the basic "vai e vem" step, the opening and the simple guide and follower turns.
If you're new to forró, we'll assume you've had at least two years of regular practice in another couple dance.
We may work in two groups for part of the workshop, so that you can all move at your own speed. Sarah & Simon will also accompany you with personalized individual corrections.
Equipment required
Bring lightweight, comfortable shoes with smooth soles and no heels! Don't hesitate to bring more than one set of clothes per day, a second pair of dance shoes if you have them, a deodorant, a fan, a bottle of water...
