Description
The Bastogne organ replaces the one built by François Loret in 1867, destroyed during the Second World War. Professor Hubert Schoonbroodt, who carried out the mission of author of the project, describes the instrument as follows: “... The Bastogne organ, classic 'French' by its Grand Organ and its Positif, romantic by its Story in conjunction with the other keyboards and the Pedal is 'symphonic' through the richness of its very diverse colors and the breadth of its sound dynamics. ... Both classical and romantic, it is however not a 'neoclassical' organ even if it has the 3 obligatory keyboards of this style and allows a very wide range of organ literature to be played. ... It is a contemporary organ, born from a taste that can be described as 'post-modern', open to all possible aesthetic impulses which fears neither retrospective nor proven traditional techniques... to update them with new ideas, new combinations and thus create a profoundly new and unique emotional universe, a complex but original work of art for the benefit of contemporary musical thinking. …”
Throughout the week we will try to put together a coherent concert program ranging from baroque music to contemporary music. The instrument sounds particularly good for romantic, post-romantic and contemporary music. For seasoned organists, don’t hesitate to bring some repertoire.
Besides that, are you a beginner, a curious keyboard player? Don’t hesitate, the course is open to everyone, come and discover the world of the organ and play on large instruments.
At the same time, for those who are interested, we can look into improvisation, four-part harmonization or continuo.
