Description
Choreographer and dance teacher Boukson Sere offers a course focused on traditional West African dances, practiced both as they are and modified and enriched by Afro-contemporary dance, his preferred style.
The steps are transmitted through imitation and gradual assimilation, in a spirit very close to tradition where improvisation also has its place. The movement is based on the feeling of the live percussion music.
Exploring the unique musical and physical characteristics of different dances, discovering the story behind each movement, each dance, and how to transition from traditional African dance to contemporary movement.
This workshop will primarily focus on energy, moving back and forth between self-reflection, exploring one's space, center, and dance, all within a framework of collective listening and openness to each participant's energy.
This process of listening and choreographic creation, blending diverse worlds all connected to African dances, will allow us, to the infectious rhythms of the musicians, to have fun, laugh, let go, dance, smile, and share... in true African style!
African dance has a true social function; it is found in almost all of life's significant ceremonies: birth, baptism, marriage, death... It is a true union with Mother Earth!
Live music throughout the workshop with Cyrille Peltre and Naike Chambrette (djembe).
