Description

The organ in Bastogne replaced the one built by François Loret in 1867, which was destroyed during the Second World War. Professor Hubert Schoonbroodt, who oversaw the project design, describes the instrument as follows: “[...] The Bastogne organ, classically ‘French’ in its Great Organ and Positive divisions, romantic in its Swell division in connection with the other manuals and the Pedal, is ‘symphonic’ in the richness of its diverse colors and the breadth of its dynamic range. […] While both classical and romantic, it is not, however, a ‘neoclassical’ organ, even though it possesses the three obligatory manuals of this style and allows for the performance of a very wide range of organ repertoire. […]

It is a contemporary organ, born from what might be called a ‘post-modern’ taste, open to all possible aesthetic impulses, unafraid of either retrospection or tried-and-tested traditional techniques… to update them through novel combinations and thus create a profoundly new and unique emotional universe, a complex yet original work of art serving musical thought.” contemporary. […]”

Throughout the week, we will strive to put together a coherent concert program ranging from Baroque to contemporary music. The instrument sounds particularly well for Romantic, Post-Romantic, and contemporary music. Experienced organists are welcome to bring their own repertoire.

Are you a beginner or a curious keyboard player? Don't hesitate, the workshop is open to everyone. Come discover the world of the organ and play on magnificent instruments.

In addition, for those interested, we can explore improvisation, four-part harmonization, or continuo.
